Being Brave
Things are scary right now, with COVID-19, but things are always going to scare us. There's always going to be someone or something that makes our stomachs hurt and triggers your fight or flight. But you know what? Jesus is always going to be here too.
There will always be anxiety and stress and fear, but there will also always be Jesus. I'm afraid to write this because I'm doubting that I'm good enough to share about the Lord. And you've probably got some anxieties right now, too.
My favourite verse right now is Joshua 1:9. "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord our God will be with you wherever you go." Some mornings, when I woke up before going to school, I would barely open my eyes and already be thinking about all the terrible things I'm gonna have to face; gym, math, my peers. And one morning when I woke up, I sat on the edge of my bed thinking about all of it, and that verse popped into my head. I repeated it all morning. School wasn't so bad that day.
I don't have school anymore (thank goodness) but in the last two months before it closed, I was doing so much better. I had a friend who I genuinely enjoyed talking to, classes I was good at, and no gym! I believe that God really was with me during that time. I'm convinced that spending time with Him really does and will make the difference.
Deuteronomy 30:6 says "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you." He's with you. He doesn't want to see you afraid and trembling, He wants us to be happy and courageous.
Think about Romans 8:31. "If God is for us, who can be against us?" I've heard that verse alot; it's my sister's profile picture on Instagram, but it never fully hit me. Read it a few times. Let it sink in, because that's amazing. He loves us. He is for us. The maker of the entire universe is on our side. What could anyone against us hope to accomplish against us when God is on our side?
Phillipians 4:6 says "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God." Again; maker of the entire universe is here for us. We can pray to him at any time about literally anything and he hears us.
Honestly, that last bit hit me real hard. We take that for granted every single day. I for one don't pray nearly enough about my anxieties, even though it takes less work and effort than opening social media. Seriously, guys. Anytime, anywhere, anything.
There are probably a ton of other verses that I could give you, but I think I made my point. He's for you, so who can possibly be against you?
