Surrender it to God

Pursuing God is not something done with little to no effort, it's not an afterthought. It is done whole-heartedly. In order to truly pursue God, He needs to be the only thing you focus on; there can be nothing standing in the way. Your loyalty cannot be divided on this matter. We are not strong enough to clean out this blockage by ourselves, we need to surrender it to God.

"Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us."

Hebrews 12:1

When you think you are sick, you go to the doctor and ask for treatment. You have to tell the doctor what you feel in order for him to help you. If you refuse to show or tell him what's wrong, how can he help you? Or, if your house catches on fire, you're not going to try and stop the fire by yourself; you need the help of firefighters. You cannot cure your disease or save your house by yourself - you need help from professionals.

When we realize that something is keeping us from an intimate relationship with God, we have to tell Him. That may mean admitting that we were wrong - which is never a comfortable situation to be in. Remember, God already knows, but He wants you to come to Him, to tell Him and show our submission and repentance. He wants a relationship with you and  the only way to build a relationship is through communication. Unresolved conflicts don't fix themselves, whether with God or anyone else.

Humble yourself and give it to God. What have you refused to let go of? Maybe you've been relying on your own strength to overcome a temptation or trial. Surrender it to God.

"Come to me all who labour and are heavy laden and I will give you rest."

Matthew 11:28

You've insisted on carrying a large load by yourself and you can feel that you won't be able to go much farther before you collapse. Then someone taps you on the shoulder and asks to take it for you. As you hand it over, you can feel your body relax and loosen and rest. When we give our problems to God, we can take our eyes and efforts away from it and fix them back on Him, running the race with nothing holding us back.

That's exactly what surrendering to God does. We give Him our burdens and He gives us rest. What a relief it is to know that we are never alone; He is always there to help.

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

Philippians 4:6,7

And now that we don't have to worry about all that unnecessary luggage, we can focus all our strength on Him. Once we're not fixated on the numbers on our Instagram, we can turn our attention to being genuine and real. We can focus on a real, below-the-surface relationship with our Creator. And that's what we were made to do!

"Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength."

Mark 12:30

I've been experiencing a few months of lethargy and just feeling too exhausted and overwhelmed to do anything (which is probably my anxiety). I try to deal with it on my own, convinced I can fix whatever is wrong with me. I found a quote in The Pursuit Of God by A.W. Tozer that says "Let us beware of tinkering with our inner life in hope ourselves to rend the veil*. God must do everything for us. Our part is to yield and trust. We must confess, forsake, repudiate the self-life, and then reckon it crucified."

*referring to a veil that blocks the face of God from us, like the veil of the tabernacle that guarded the Holy of Holies*

Before this illness can be done away with, we need to confess it to God, surrendering it to Him daily. Because we can do nothing without God.
